A new site for everyone who wants to work in the growing Serbian gaming industry: Shift2Games
The platform, along with the entire Shift2Games concept, was designed by SGA (Serbian Games Association) with the support of Creative Tech Serbia, a supercluster pilot project funded by USAID Serbia and ICT Hub Belgrade (through the Srbija Inovira project). The platform’s significance has also been recognized and supported by the Swedish regional project RECONOMY, implemented by the organization Help with the support of Helvetas, and the main partner for creating the TV show “Fortuna Esports.”
Additionally, the website contains a database of all educational institutions in Serbia that provide formal or informal education in the field of gaming. It also includes blogs, videos, and interviews with people who are already involved in game development, with the content regularly expanding.
The importance of the Shift2Games platform has been recognized by both the industry and educational institutions.
“Shift2Games is not just a website for people interested in gaming but a one-of-a-kind project that we haven’t seen at this level of seriousness, content quality, and transparency. Although its primary target group consists of people considering a transition into this industry or young people exploring their professional interests, this platform is also a unique knowledge base, full of experiences, guides, and instructions… It’s also a prime example of quality collaboration between associations, companies, enthusiasts, and educational institutions, creating value for the entire community. With plans for further content development, innovative approaches to sharing information, and integration with other platforms, long-term value is inevitable,” emphasized Milica Petrović Jakovljević, HR Director at the Niš-based company Webelinx Games and a member of the SGA Board of Directors.
On the other hand, “A website with such well-structured and detailed descriptions of occupations and education is of great use to anyone seeking information and starting a career in the field of video game creation. I wholeheartedly recommend it to students and anyone interested in this field, as it serves as a relevant source of professional titles in gaming,” stated Mina Cvetinović Pavkov, Head of the Department for Visual Effects, Animation, and Game Art at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade.
According to the annual report of the Serbian Games Association (SGA), 330 new professionals are needed in the gaming industry this year alone, and the most challenging positions to fill are producers, monetization experts, and managers. Programmers and various types of artists remain the most sought-after roles. All open positions in gaming can be found on the SGA Jobs website, which is linked to the new Shift2Games platform, offering over 100 job openings at any given time.
In addition to the web platform, Shift2Games will host numerous educational events for students, gaming career fairs, and workshops for professional retraining. The first “Shift2Games Career Day” was held on June 24th in Belgrade, attended by 250 students and young professionals, with six exhibiting companies and three guest lectures.
But that’s not all. A television documentary and informational series of the same name will premiere this fall on the Sport Klub Esports TV channel (Fortuna Esports) and will also be available online.
