SGA Insights: How to sell 750,000 copies of a game?

What does the life of a game look like after it leaves Early Access? Is the launch the end of development or just the beginning of the most important part of the journey? We'll take a look behind the scenes of the marketing campaign for The Last Spell to answer the question of what it takes to keep a game relevant years after launch. We'll also talk about how to build and maintain a relationship with the community, and through honest reflections on both successes and mistakes, you'll gain valuable insights into what it looks like to continuously improve a product in a dynamic and demanding environment.

Thanks to the support of the French Institute and the Game Caravan project, we have the opportunity to host Bruno Laverny Santos, Director of Communications and Marketing from Ishtar Games, a studio from Lille (France). They make games that are complex and mix different genres, especially with an RPG component. They became famous with the Dead in series when they were still CCCP, and their more famous recent titles are The Last Spell, Lakeburg Legacies and others.

Bruno’s presentation will be related to one of these games: The Last Spell.

The Last Spell is a tactical RPG with roguelike elements, selling over 750,000 copies across all platforms. After leaving Early Access in 2023, the team continued to work on it for another three years, releasing several major updates and three DLCs by early 2026.

Bruno will discuss strategy, how they kept players interested in the game, what they did well and what they didn’t do so well over the past three years.

IMPORTANT: This event is for SGA members only.

This edition of SGA Insights was conducted through the Game Caravan project, which is implemented in collaboration with the French Institute.
