We’re looking for a Lighting Artist who understands how to use light not just as a technical tool, but as a storytelling device. In this role, you’ll shape mood, atmosphere, and visual clarity across game environments, ensuring every scene supports gameplay, narrative, and artistic vision. You’ll collaborate closely with Art Direction, Environment Art, Design, and Technical teams to deliver high-quality, performance-optimized lighting for real-time experiences.

What You’ll Do

  • Create lighting that enhances drama, narrative, and gameplay readability
  • Define and support location, weather, time of day, and mood through lighting
  • Follow established visual design themes and ensure consistency across sequences and environments
  • Apply production designs faithfully while maintaining continuity throughout scenes and gameplay spaces
  • Balance artistic quality with real-time performance constraints and engine limitations
  • Collaborate with Environment Art, VFX, and Technical Art teams to achieve cohesive visual results
  • Iterate on lighting based on feedback from Art Direction and playtesting

Collaboration and Workflow

With Art Direction

  • Understand and execute the intended visual style and emotional tone
  • Receive feedback and iterate on lighting to meet artistic goals
  • Ensure consistency with overall visual language and reference materials

With Environment and Level Art Teams

  • Integrate lighting seamlessly into level layouts and asset placement
  • Support composition and readability of gameplay spaces
  • Collaborate on scene dressing to enhance lighting impact

With Technical Art and Engineering

  • Ensure lighting works within performance budgets and engine constraints
  • Troubleshoot rendering issues and optimize scenes where needed
  • Work with shaders, materials, and lighting systems in engine

With Production and QA

  • Deliver lighting work aligned with milestone schedules
  • Respond to feedback and bug reports related to lighting or visual clarity
  • Support polish phases and final visual validation

Requirements

  • Experience with at least one industry-standard 3D package (e.g. Maya, Houdini, 3ds Max, XSI, Lightwave)
  • Experience working in real-time engines such as Unreal Engine, Unity, or other proprietary engine
  • Strong understanding of color theory, composition, light, and form
  • Solid knowledge of rendering workflows, shading networks, UVs, and materials
  • Proven ability to light both interior and exterior complex scenes
  • Strong ability to work from reference and production design materials
  • Understanding of performance constraints in game development
  • Based in Europe or able to work within European time zones
  • Good written and spoken English

Nice to have

  • Experience in film, photography, or theatre lighting
  • Experience working on AAA or large-scale game productions
  • Familiarity with environment art or level design workflows
  • Experience in co-development or external partner environments

What we offer

  • Opportunity to work on high-profile game projects
  • A collaborative, creative, and supportive studio environment
  • Flexible working model (remote, hybrid, or on-site)
  • Professional growth through mentorship, training, and learning opportunities

If you’re driven by a love of games and take pride in delivering flawless experiences, this is your chance to join a studio where creativity, craftsmanship, and collaboration come first. We can’t wait to see what you’ll bring to our team!
