Another lecture by French gaming experts within the Playing Narratives program
As part of the Playing Narratives program, in which twenty-three young creatives from all over Serbia have been participating since mid-April, following weekly lectures by local, German, and French experts from the gaming industry, on Thursday, June 3, participants and the wider public will have a chance to watch a lecture by Rémy Boicherot, a game designer from the DONTNOD studio.
The Playing Narratives program was initiated and implemented by the Goethe-Institut and the French Institute in Serbia together with SGA, and the lecture entitled The underrated game design potential of emergent stories is realized in cooperation with the renowned French school for interactive media Cnam-ENJMIN, which is one of the project partners. This lecture is open to the wider community, and since it will be conducted in English, it will be open to all those interested in the topic outside of Serbia.
The lecture The underrated game design potential of emergent stories is dedicated to the phenomenon of “emergent” stories, which is becoming increasingly popular with both players and game creators. Although some of the recently published games have explored this field (Crusader Kings III, Watch Dogs: Legion, Pandemic Legacy…), it is still largely unexplored in the domain of video or board games. During the lecture, Remy will present the different types of these stories in games and give suggestions for techniques that can be used to write them.
Rémy Boicherot is a game designer fascinated by stories generated by choice, rules, and systems. His international career took him to Singapore, the Czech Republic, the United States, and France, where he worked on hits such as Mafia III, as well as other experimental projects. He is currently a senior game designer at Dontnod Entertainment on a still-unannounced action RPG title. He also teaches game design in Paris.
The lecture is on Thursday, June 3, starting at 5.30 pm CET, you can follow it simply by joining us via Zoom. No registration required.
