WHY ARE WE MAKING SGA EMPOWERS?

  • Serbia is among the top three leading countries in Europe in terms of the number of women in the gaming industry, with 30% of women working in gaming.
  • Even 50% of all teams are led by women.
  • 4 out of 10 gamers are women – that’s why we want diverse teams to create games.

SGA wants to support girls, women, and those who identify as female – whether they are already in the gaming industry or aspire to become a part of it. Whether you’re pursuing artistic, technical, or business-oriented professions, or those more inclined towards human interaction – the gaming industry is a creative workplace and one of the currently most sought-after careers.

Throughout one day, we are organizing up to 7 activities. Take a look at which one interests you the most and join us! All events are free with registration.

CREATE YOUR FIRST FORTNITE CREATIVE ISLAND

“Empower Gamedev Workshop 2024 Novi Sad,” which we are organizing in collaboration with 3Lateral (as part of Epic Games) and Epic Games Novi Sad, aims to provide participants with basic theories of video game development, followed by applying these elements practically within the Fortnite Creative environment.

This mode of the popular Fortnite edition by Epic Games allows the creation of a large number of different digital worlds, as well as video games within them. Through lectures in blocks, as well as active work on their own islands (Fortnite Creative Islands), participants will have the opportunity to take the acquired ideas about game design concepts and apply them directly. In doing so, they will create their own creations within Fortnite Creative and thus have the opportunity to experience the complete product development cycle of the largest domain of the global entertainment industry.

Previous experience is not necessary, and everything needed for work is provided on-site.

MAKE A 3D PLATFORMER

The best way to learn is to try it out! If you’ve always wanted to make a game, sign up for one of these two workshops we’re organizing in collaboration with the Metropolitan University. Both workshops will focus on creating a prototype for a platformer – the type of game many of us grew up playing, perfect for mastering the basics of game and level design.

No prior experience in game development, 3D modeling, or computer programming is required to participate in the workshops. During the four-hour session, we will analyze the essential elements in this process, how they are interconnected, and how we plan to create, edit, and integrate them into the engine. All equipment will be provided on-site.

CREATE A LOGO FOR YOUR GAME

What do we see every time the game loads? What is the easiest thing to remember and recognize? The logo! That’s why it’s important for your game to have an original, interesting logo that conveys the vibe and genre of the game at first glance. Fortunately, creating a logo is a well-studied matter nowadays.

In collaboration with Playstudios Europe, we are organizing a workshop where you will learn how to create a logo for your game – whether it’s real or imaginary.

Important:To participate in the workshop, you need to be familiar with working in Photoshop and bring your laptop with Photoshop installed.
Lecturer: Ljubica Rančić – Art Director (Live Ops), Playstudios Europe

BONUS – WORKSHOP FOR GAMING EMPLOYEES

We want to additionally support girls and women who are already employed in the Serbian gaming industry. In addition to technical skills, it’s just as important to cultivate things we don’t always have time for, such as goal setting. That’s why our professional associates are here to help you map out your career development more easily and correctly.

About the workshop:

In order to know where we are going, it is necessary to understand where we want to get to. That is why in practice it is shown that an active approach to professional development, through setting goals, is very important for growth and achieving changes in the working environment, especially in modern occupations where there is dynamism, fluidity and a constant need for innovation. At the same time, this approach helps us stay motivated and connected to our work.

In this workshop, we will work together to understand the methods for setting goals, and then we will try to translate the goals into steps for further development. During two hours we will work interactively: we will discuss, learn and practice.

MEETUPS IN BELGRADE AND NIŠ!

At the end of such a wonderful day, we want to present to the entire community what women in the gaming industry of Serbia are involved in. We want to celebrate their expertise and experience and learn more about their career paths as well as what they are currently working on.

Who can attend? Absolutely everyone! We would love to see high school girls and college students, as well as their peers from classrooms and lectures; everyone already working in the gaming industry; and those who are undecided about whether the gaming industry is the right place for them. We firmly believe that this kind of sharing firsthand experience and networking among different generations is the best way to strengthen our gaming ecosystem.
