GFB – S01E03: Crowdfunding

In its third "episode", Game Funding Bootcamp focuses on the community, and demonstrates the opportunities provided by crowdfunding, with a special focus on gaming projects, through a practical workshop.

Crowdfunding is a good option for the development of the gaming industry projects, but good planning of the campaign and the expected costs is necessary.  Some of the most successful crowdfunding campaigns from Serbia come from this industry, so we can expect that this trend will continue in the coming period.

Although board games dominate with their success on platforms such as Kickstarter, video games are increasingly achieving significant results, and are being implemented with the help of a global community of gamers who are ready to support new projects. Not infrequently, these platforms are used not only for fundraising, but also as a market research tool.

In this special program, which is the third program dedicated to crowdfunding organized by the SGA, a practical workshop will be presented by Jes Bailey, crowdfunding expert from the UK. At the same time, we will take the opportunity to present Dobri dabar, a new domestic platform for crowdfunding.

Finally, one of the creators of the most successful board game crowdfunding campaign from Serbia will join us to share their experience. Forest of Radgost raised almost $ 300.000 from 3.000 backers from all over the world, and is now in production!

It is interesting to note that according to the SGA annual report for 2020, as much as 30% of the funds raised for the development of video games by the members of the association came through crowdfunding.

In preparation for the workshop, you can also check out the experiences of some of our members presented at one of the earlier SGA meetups. Norbert Varga from the Digital Arrow studio, as well as Jovan Vesić,, the author of the game Columnae, shared their experiences with crowdfunding campaigns. Watch the videos by clicking on the links (Serbian only)!

Game Funding Bootcamp is a new initiative of SGA that aims to address these challenges, and through a series of lectures and workshops that will be realized in the period between January and April 2022 to teams and companies from Serbia and the region, present various potential sources of funding, with the participation of domestic and international experts and a number of partner organizations.
